O3 Scores Big but Costs Even Bigger!

OpenAI recently introduced its advanced AI model, O3. Early benchmarks show exceptional performance, but its high computational cost raises concerns about scalability and affordability for broader use.

  • Performance Breakthrough: O3 achieved 25% in a math test where no AI had scored above 2% before. Its score in the ARC-AGI benchmark was 88%, far exceeding previous models.

  • Rapid Development: OpenAI launched O3 only three months after releasing O1, showcasing a significant leap in AI development.

  • High Cost: Each response generated by O3 costs over $1,000, compared to $5 for O1 and just cents for O1-mini.

The success of O3 highlights the potential of advanced training techniques like "test-time scaling," but the cost barrier raises questions about the future accessibility of cutting-edge AI. It also signals that AI development might accelerate even faster in 2025, combining traditional scaling with innovative methods to achieve greater efficiency.

Stanford AI Makes Avatars More Human

Stanford researchers have created an AI model that enables digital avatars to produce realistic and context-appropriate gestures while speaking, making virtual characters more expressive and lifelike.

  • Trained on 1,000 hours of audiobooks and 60 hours of motion capture to link speech, text, and body language.

  • Can generate gestures from text or audio while identifying emotions from motion patterns.

  • Uses a new pre-training approach, reducing the need for large datasets and improving gesture accuracy.

As virtual avatars become a bigger part of our daily lives, from meetings to entertainment, realistic gestures are key to making them believable and effective. This advancement could revolutionize industries and create exciting new applications for digital characters.

How to Add Shortcuts to ChatGPT

ChatGPTā€™s new Memory feature has a lesser-known trick: it can store shortcuts, saving you time during chats.

Hereā€™s how to set it up:

  1. Go to the ChatGPT website. You need a Plus subscription to use Memory.

  2. Click on your account name (bottom-left), then select ā€˜Settingsā€™, ā€˜Personalizationā€™, and turn on ā€˜Memoryā€™.

  3. Teach ChatGPT shortcuts by saying:
Remember that when I start a prompt with ā€˜!siā€™, it means I want you to search the Internet; ā€˜!ciā€™ means create an image; and ā€˜!daā€™ means use Advanced Data Analysis
