🔥 Today's Biggest Story

Oracle — 162,000 employees, $156B OpenAI deal, Larry Ellison's AI empire — is now planning to cut 20,000 to 30,000 jobs to free up $8–10 billion in cash. Why? Because building AI data centers is burning money faster than investors can stomach.
Jan 2026 — TD Cowen warns Oracle may cut 20K–30K roles to fund AI buildout
Feb 2026 — Oracle announces plan to raise $45–50B through debt & equity; US banks start pulling back from financing
Mar 5, 2026 — Bloomberg confirms layoffs across multiple divisions, happening this month; cloud hiring frozen
Mar 9, 2026 — Stock down 54% from Sep 2025 peak; earnings call next week will reveal full damage
The brutal irony: Oracle is cutting the very people who built its cloud — and replacing them with AI — while betting everything on a $156B deal with OpenAI that requires 3 million GPUs over 5 years. US banks have already started walking away from the financing, doubling Oracle's borrowing costs.
Bottom Line :This is what the AI arms race actually looks like from inside. Companies are spending billions on infrastructure they can't yet monetize, cutting human jobs to fund machines that may not deliver until 2030 — and calling it "innovation." Oracle isn't alone. It's just the most honest about the math.

Here is the full story — because most headlines are missing the real twist.
What happened: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei an ultimatum on Feb 24: drop your AI safety guardrails and give the Pentagon unrestricted access to Claude — or lose your $200M contract and get blacklisted as a "supply chain risk."
The twist no one saw coming: The US military is still using Claude — right now — to help identify targets during active operations in Iran. Claude was the only AI model authorized in classified settings. There is no ready replacement. Pentagon officials privately admitted: "The only reason we're still talking to these people is we need them and we need them now."
Where things stand on March 9: Anthropic has filed legal intent to challenge the supply chain risk designation in court under 10 USC 3252. The company says the designation legally applies only to DoD direct contracts — not commercial customers
BOTTOM LINE : Anthropic drew a line. The US government crossed it. The military still needs Claude. And OpenAI signed the deal Anthropic refused. This is the moment where AI ethics stopped being a blog post and became a geopolitical event. Every developer building on these models is now downstream of that decision — whether they know it or not.

💬 Prompt of the Day
Use this in Claude Code, Cursor, or ChatGPT right now:
You are a senior engineer reviewing my codebase for AI integration opportunities.
Scan the code I paste below and:
1. Identify 3 repetitive tasks that could be automated with an LLM
2. Suggest which model (Claude, GPT-5, Gemini) fits each task best and why
3. Estimate time saved per week if each automation was built
Be specific, not generic. Reference actual functions or patterns you see.

🔧 Monday Skill — Tool: Warp Terminal
Your terminal still thinks it's 2012. Warp doesn't.
Most developers spend 2–3 hours a day in the terminal — and almost all of it is the same frustrating loop: half-remembered commands, scrolling through walls of output, googling error messages in a separate tab, copy-pasting back and forth. That loop is completely broken now.
Warp is an AI-native terminal that understands what you're trying to do. Type a plain English description of what you want — "find all files modified in the last 24 hours and list them by size" — and it writes the exact shell command for you, explains it inline, and lets you run it in one click.
Try this in Warp right now →
Type naturally: "Set up a local PostgreSQL database, create a users table with id, email, and created_at, and insert 3 test rows"
Watch it write the full bash + psql sequence.
