OpenAI Goes Open-Source

OpenAI Unveils GPT-OSS, Its First Open-Source Model in 6 Years
OpenAI has introduced GPT-OSS, a powerful open-source AI model that’s free to download, customize, and even run on personal laptops. Released in two versions, GPT-OSS marks a major shift in OpenAI’s stance on open access to AI technology.
• Two versions available: One with 120B parameters (runs on Nvidia GPUs) and a smaller 20B version (runs with just 16GB RAM)
• Commercial use supported: Released under the Apache 2.0 license on platforms like Hugging Face, Azure, AWS, and Databricks
• Strong capabilities: Can perform reasoning, web search, code generation, and run agents via OpenAI’s existing APIs
This is OpenAI’s first open-source model in over six years, signaling a big philosophical shift. Until recently, CEO Sam Altman cited security concerns for keeping models closed. But with the rise of popular open-source alternatives like DeepSeek, OpenAI now aims to "bridge the gap" for developers and smaller companies.

AI Creates Stories for Kids

Google introduces 'Storybook', a new tool in its Gemini AI chatbot that turns your words into illustrated stories.
The Storybook feature creates 10-page stories, each with a short paragraph and optional voice narration by Gemini.
Users can customize the visuals using styles like anime, comics, and more, even uploading reference images like a child’s drawing.
It's available on desktop and mobile, in all languages currently supported by Gemini.
This tool marks a creative leap in AI-powered storytelling. While the results may not rival human-authored stories and still show visual flaws or character design issues, Storybook can be a powerful way to nurture children’s creativity and make storytelling more accessible for everyone. As Google improves it, this feature could become a valuable part of digital learning and entertainment.
