OpenAI's New Voice Mode is Here!

OpenAI has announced the launch of an "Advanced Voice Mode" (AVM) along with several updates for a select group of paying ChatGPT customers.

This voice feature, which makes conversations with ChatGPT feel more natural, will first be available to Plus and Teams users, with Enterprise and Edu customers receiving it next week.

As shown in OpenAI’s announcement video, the Advanced Mode has undergone some changes.

Now, when using this feature, users will see a moving blue globe. Previously, using ChatGPT’s voice capabilities displayed a set of moving black dots.

Additionally, ChatGPT now offers 5 new voices for users to try out, bringing the total number of available voices to 9, which is close to the range offered by Google’s Gemini Live AI.

OpenAI first introduced this feature in May. At that time, there was a voice called "Sky" that was later removed due to its resemblance to the voice of Scarlett Johansson, the actress from the film Her.

Currently, Sky is not available in ChatGPT.

Another feature that’s still not accessible to users is the ability to share video and screen content with ChatGPT, which OpenAI demonstrated at its spring event.

This feature would allow GPT-4 to process visual and audio information simultaneously. For example, it could help solve math problems written on paper.

A few weeks ago, Google also launched its Gemini Live voice feature in English for Android devices.

Recently, Meta announced plans to release a celebrity voice feature later this week, which will be available on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

1. Head to ChatGPT and choose the GPT-4 model.

2. Upload your data file (but avoid including any sensitive information).

3. Click the expand button to explore your data. Then, ask ChatGPT to visualize it by requesting a chart.

For example, if you have a spreadsheet with data on the Japanese automobile industry, you could prompt:

Create a pie chart to show the total units sold by each brand in 2021.

You can interact with the chart and even edit it in ChatGPT by clicking the edit button in the top right corner.
