DeepSeek V3: The AI Giant at $5.57M
DeepSeek, a Chinese AI startup, has launched DeepSeek-V3, an open-source language model with groundbreaking performance that rivals leading AI models, but at a fraction of the cost.
DeepSeek-V3 uses a Mixture-of-Experts design with 671 billion parameters, offering efficiency and high performance.
Training was completed in just two months for $5.57M, far less than the $500M+ spent on similar models like LLaMA 3.1.
The model excels in math and Chinese language tasks, while matching or outperforming closed-source models on many benchmarks.
This release narrows the gap between open-source and closed-source AI models. It also highlights the resilience of Chinese AI innovation, showing that U.S. chip restrictions are failing to impede progress in the field.
