What’s happening AI today

1. IT sector shed 13,000 jobs in April — and AI uncertainty is being blamed: US Department of Labor data shows the IT sector's unemployment rate rose from 3.6% in March to 3.8% in April, with roughly 13,000 jobs leaving the sector in a single month. The Wall Street Journal analysis cited "AI uncertainty" as a key driver — companies pausing hiring while they figure out how much of their software development can be absorbed by AI coding agents. The figure sits awkwardly alongside Microsoft's finding that developer employment is at record highs, and suggests the labour market is splitting: senior engineers are in demand, mid-level and entry-level roles are the ones disappearing.

2. Global AI adoption hit 17.8% of working-age adults — UAE leads at 70%: Microsoft's Q1 2026 Global AI Diffusion Report found that AI usage among the world's working-age population climbed 1.5 percentage points in the first quarter to 17.8%. Twenty-six economies now have more than 30% of working-age adults actively using AI. The UAE leads at 70.1%. The US rose only from 24th to 21st place globally, with a 31.3% usage rate — a reminder that adoption in the US, while high in absolute terms, is being outpaced by smaller, faster-moving economies in Asia and the Gulf.

3. GPT Image 2 and Seedance 2.0 just made high-quality AI animation accessible to anyone: A new workflow combining OpenAI's GPT Image 2 with ByteDance's Seedance 2.0 video model has gone viral among creators this week — producing cinema-quality animations from still images at a quality level that would have required a professional studio twelve months ago. The combination is being called a step-change moment for solo creators, marketers, and small teams who previously had no realistic path to high-end animated content. Expect it to show up in advertising and social content within weeks.

Talk to your AI tools the way you'd talk to a colleague.

You don't send a colleague a three-word brief. You explain the context, the constraints, what you've already tried. But typing all that into ChatGPT takes forever — so you don't.

Wispr Flow lets you speak your prompts instead. Talk through your thinking naturally and get clean, paste-ready text. No filler words. No cleanup. Just detailed prompts that actually get you useful answers on the first try.
