OpenAI Buys Jony Ive’s Startup for $6.5 Billion to Build AI Hardware
OpenAI has officially bought the design startup “LoveFrom”, founded by former Apple legend Jony Ive, for $6.5 billion. This move brings Ive and his team into OpenAI to lead its creative and design efforts, possibly marking OpenAI’s entry into the AI hardware market.
Jony Ive, known for designing the iPhone and Apple Watch, will now help OpenAI design future AI devices.
The startup was co-founded by Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, who still praises Ive as the world’s best designer.
Ive and Altman have been secretly working on AI hardware projects for the past 2 years.
This deal shows OpenAI’s serious interest in consumer AI products and possibly becoming a direct hardware competitor to Apple. If successful, it could change how people use AI in their everyday devices.

Mistral Drops Free Coding AI
Mistral Unveils Devstral: A New Open-Source AI Model for Coding
Mistral, an AI company, has released Devstral, a powerful new coding assistant model made in partnership with All Hands AI. It's open-source under the Apache 2.0 license, meaning anyone can use it freely, even for commercial purposes.
Devstral outperforms models like Google’s Gemma 3 27B and DeepSeek V3 in SWE-Bench Verified coding tasks.
It runs on regular hardware, including an Nvidia RTX 4090 or a Mac with 32GB RAM.
The model is already available on Hugging Face and via Mistral’s API, with pricing set at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.30 per million output tokens.
The release of Devstral shows how fast the AI coding assistant market is growing. With strong performance and an open license, Devstral gives developers a new and accessible tool. As more companies adopt AI in development, tools like this will become central to how software is built.
