What Happened to $6.5B deal?
OpenAI has quietly removed all ads and videos for its $6.5B deal with Jony Ive’s startup, io, after a court order over a trademark fight with a similar-sounding company, iyO.
iyO, a Google X spinout, says it met with Ive and Sam Altman years ago before the io deal was announced
iyO claims LoveFrom, Ive’s design firm, may have copied its product ideas and even its name
OpenAI deleted a blog post and video but says the deal is still moving forward and the legal claims are baseless
This case could shine a light on how big tech deals are made and how close some companies come to crossing lines. Even if OpenAI and Ive continue their project, the lawsuit challenges their image of being original and forward-thinking.
