Hand-picked news:

🚨OpenAI is reportedly building a social media platform ↗️LINK

  • OpenAI is reportedly working on an early-stage social media platform designed to allow only real humans, potentially requiring identity verification through Apple Face ID or an iris scan, according to sources familiar with the project.

  • The idea builds on Sam Altman’s earlier efforts with World, formerly Worldcoin, which uses a physical eye-scanning Orb to create human-only digital IDs, but adoption has been limited and the technology has drawn privacy concerns and regulatory scrutiny.

  • While OpenAI hopes a bot-free environment could attract users frustrated with AI-generated spam, it remains unclear whether people would accept biometric verification, especially when existing social platforms already reach billions of users without such barriers.

🎵 Anthropic hit with $3B music piracy lawsuit ↗️LINK

  • Anthropic is being sued for 3 billion dollars by major music publishers, who allege the company illegally downloaded more than 20,000 copyrighted songs, lyrics, and sheet music, potentially making this one of the largest copyright cases in U.S. history.

  • Publishers including Universal Music Group and Concord say they uncovered the alleged piracy during discovery in a separate authors lawsuit, after initially suing over 500 works and later finding thousands more.

  • The new lawsuit names CEO Dario Amodei directly and revives scrutiny of Anthropic’s safety-focused branding, especially after a prior authors case ruled AI training can be legal but acquiring data through piracy is not.

🍏 Apple buys secretive Israeli AI startup Q ai ↗️LINK

  • Apple has acquired Israeli artificial intelligence startup Q ai for an undisclosed price, confirming the deal after Reuters first reported it, with Apple chip chief Johny Srouji praising the team and future potential.

  • Q ai, led by former PrimeSense CEO Aviad Maizels, was highly secretive but appears to have been developing audio or communication-enhancement technology, backed by investors including GV, Kleiner Perkins, and Spark Capital.

  • The acquisition fits Apple’s strategy of buying small, specialized AI companies to integrate into products like AirPods and Siri, as the company faces pressure to accelerate its AI roadmap amid delays and growing competition.

🌍 Google opens its AI world generator to the public ↗️LINK

  • Google DeepMind has launched Project Genie, a web app that lets users create and explore AI generated worlds in real time, powered by the Genie 3 model first previewed in August.

  • Users describe a setting and character, preview scenes using Nano Banana Pro and Gemini, then move through a persistent world where characters can walk, fly, or drive, with visual consistency maintained across revisits.

  • Access is currently limited to Google’s AI Ultra subscribers at 250 dollars per month, with sessions capped at 60 seconds due to compute costs, as world simulators edge closer to practical use in gaming, robotics, and design.

📱 Zuckerberg plans major AI rollout for 2026 ↗️LINK

  • Mark Zuckerberg said Meta will begin releasing new AI models and products over the coming months, with momentum expected to accelerate through 2026 after rebuilding its AI foundations.

  • Meta is betting heavily on AI driven commerce, developing agentic shopping tools that help users discover products from businesses, using its access to personal data as a competitive advantage.

  • The company plans to spend between 115 and 135 billion dollars on capital expenditures in 2026, up sharply from 72 billion in 2025, to fund its Meta Superintelligence Labs and support its core platforms.
