What’s happening AI today

1. OpenAI's Stargate hits 10GW — three years ahead of schedule: OpenAI confirmed this week that its Stargate infrastructure initiative has already surpassed its original 2029 target of 10 gigawatts of compute capacity, with 3GW added in just the last three months. The acceleration signals the compute arms race is moving faster than even the companies building it had projected — and puts enormous pressure on Anthropic, Google, and Meta to match the infrastructure before the capability gap becomes unbridgeable.

2. Anthropic opens Claude Security beta to all enterprises: Anthropic opened public beta access to Claude Security this week — a system built on Opus 4.7 that scans entire codebases for vulnerabilities and generates patches. It is the first time enterprises outside the Glasswing coalition can access anything close to Mythos-level security reasoning. Early testers reported it finding critical issues in production code within minutes of connecting a repository.

3. Stanford's 2026 AI Index: the US still leads, but China is closing fast: Stanford's annual AI Index landed this week confirming the top models keep improving despite predictions of a plateau, and people are adopting AI faster than any technology in history. The US leads on model performance and infrastructure. China leads on research publications and patents. The gap between the two frontier tiers is now measured in weeks not months — and every major lab has stopped publicly disclosing training data, architecture details, or parameter counts.Coding is fading—AI directors will win.

OpenAI has raised over $4B at a $10B pre-money valuation for a brand new entity called The Deployment Company — a dedicated business built specifically to help enterprises adopt and integrate OpenAI tools at scale, separate from the core research and model organization.

The details:

  • The Deployment Company is structured as a joint venture, signalling OpenAI sees implementation as a distinct and valuable business — not just a feature of selling API access.

  • The $10B pre-money valuation makes it one of the largest enterprise AI services businesses ever created at inception — before a single deployment has shipped.

  • The move follows OpenAI's multi-cloud expansion via the Microsoft deal restructure, suggesting the company is building a commercial layer on top of its now-wider infrastructure access.

  • For product and tech teams building on OpenAI, this signals that enterprise pricing, SLAs, and support structures are about to become significantly more formal and tiered.

Why it matters: OpenAI is separating the job of building models from the job of selling them at scale. That is a mature enterprise move — and it tells you that OpenAI believes the next decade of revenue will come from helping companies actually use AI, not just from licensing access to it. For competitors, it means OpenAI is no longer just a model provider. It is building a professional services layer that will be very hard to dislodge once embedded inside large enterprises.
