OpenAI’s board chairman Brett Taylor compared today’s AI boom to the dot-com era.
Warning investors about overhyped and low-value projects, while still pointing out the real breakthroughs happening in AI.
Brett Taylor said many AI projects are like “snake oil”, flashy but with little real value.
He compared the AI hype cycle to the late 1990s dot-com bubble, where some companies failed but giants like Amazon and eBay survived.
Despite the risks, he noted real progress, like ChatGPT’s explosive growth and promising B2B AI startups.
AI is attracting billions in investment, but not every project is built to last. Taylor’s warning reminds investors and the public to separate hype from real innovation, just as history did with the dot-com bubble.
