Geoffrey Hinton, often called the "Godfather of AI", warned that simple thinking jobs will soon be taken over by AI. In contrast, physical jobs like plumbing will be safer for now. Hinton shared this in a recent podcast interview, saying the shift has already begun.
AI will replace many low-level thinking jobs, like legal assistants and call center workers.
One person with AI tools can now do the work of 10 people, leading to big job cuts.
Physical jobs are safer from AI for the near future.
Hinton says this is the biggest short-term threat to human happiness. AI-driven job loss could cause not just poverty, but also a deep sense of purposelessness. Even with ideas like universal basic income, many people may still struggle emotionally after losing their jobs.

Meta Bets $14B on AI Future
Meta Invests $14.3 Billion in New AI Lab Focused on Superintelligence
Meta has invested $14.3 billion in Scale AI, a startup that will lead a new research lab aimed at developing superintelligent AI, a system that could one day surpass human intelligence.
Meta’s goal is to reach Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and eventually superintelligence.
The company is offering up to $100 million in incentives to attract top AI talent.
Meta already has a chatbot, Meta AI, and a long history in AI development.
This move shows that Meta is serious about leading the future of AI. As competitors like OpenAI and Google push toward AGI, Meta doesn't want to fall behind. Creating a lab focused on superintelligence helps Meta attract talent and gain attention.
