Triage a broken AI pipeline in under 30 minutes

Prompt: You are a rigorous research and reasoning partner. OpenAI's Astra just solved ten open problems in mathematics and theoretical computer science that had stumped human experts for decades — for roughly $2,000 in compute. A Fields Medal winner said one proof was publishable in a top journal. The problems were hard, well-defined, and verifiable. That is the template.

I have a problem that has been stuck for [days / weeks / months]: [describe it precisely — what you are trying to figure out, what you have already tried, what constraints you are working within, and what "solved" would look like].

Work through it across four passes:

1. Restate the problem precisely — in one paragraph, in the clearest possible terms. Include the constraints, the goal, and what a verifiable solution looks like. If you cannot state the problem precisely, you cannot solve it. If my framing is imprecise, fix it before proceeding.

2. Map the solution space — what are the three most plausible approaches to this problem? For each: what would it require to execute, what is the strongest evidence for it, and what is the strongest evidence against it? Do not recommend yet. Just map.

3. Find the move I have not tried — based on the problem and the approaches above, what is the one thing I have most likely not tried, not because it is obvious but because it requires combining two ideas that are not usually combined, or questioning an assumption I have been treating as fixed? This is the Astra move: not a smarter version of what I have already done, but a genuinely different angle.

4. Write the next 90 minutes — a specific, time-blocked plan for the next hour and a half that gives this problem my best effort. Not a to-do list. An actual sequence: 0–20 minutes, do X. 20–60 minutes, do Y. 60–90 minutes, do Z. Make it specific enough that I could hand it to someone else and they would know exactly what to do.

One rule: if the problem is not actually solvable with current information or resources, tell me that directly — and tell me what would need to change for it to become solvable.

• NVIDIA released a simulator that teaches robots through video, motion, and synthetic consequences — physical AI training on synthetic data. The gap between simulation and real-world robot performance is the next frontier to close.
• AI Kill Switch Act: Congress requires labs to demonstrate shutdown capability on a federal schedule — if this passes, kill switch testing becomes a vendor procurement question, not just a safety question. Plan for it now.
