Standard Chartered plans to cut 7,000 jobs in AI push

Standard Chartered just announced it's cutting 7,000 jobs by 2030 — about 15% of its corporate workforce — to make room for AI and automation.

The CEO's framing was blunt: "It's replacing, in some cases, lower-value human capital with financial capital."

Let that sink in. People, described as lower-value capital.

The back offices in Chennai, Bengaluru, Kuala Lumpur, and Warsaw will feel it most. These aren't executive suites — they're the people doing the daily operational work that keeps a global bank running.

Standard Chartered isn't alone. Tech companies cut nearly 80,000 positions in just the first quarter of 2026, with almost half attributed to AI. An MIT study estimates AI could displace 11.7% of all U.S. workers across every industry.

But here's the nuance worth holding: some researchers and even OpenAI's Sam Altman have pointed out that "AI did it" is increasingly being used to dress up layoffs that were really about poor business decisions. AI as scapegoat, not just AI as disruptor.

So what's actually true? Probably both — at the same time.

The honest question for any professional right now isn't "Will AI take my job?" It's "Am I building skills that make me the person who works with AI — or the one replaced by it?"

How to Update ChatGPT Research Without Starting Over

Add new requirements to Deep Research while it’s running so ChatGPT can continue the research without restarting.

Here's how to do it (step-by-step):

Step 1: Start a Deep Research task in ChatGPT.

Step 2: While the research is running, click the Update button in the research panel.

Step 3: Type your additional context or requirements in chat and hit send:

"Also include tools with built-in time tracking and compare their mobile app ratings."

Step 4: ChatGPT instantly adjusts its research to include your new criteria without starting over.

Quick Tip:Perfect for when you realize you forgot key requirements or need to pivot research direction, saves 20+ minutes by not having to restart complex queries from scratch.

One Prompt Creates the Entire Poster

Create a high-quality cinematic poster about AI campaigning and digital influence in the modern world. The scene should show a futuristic AI-driven campaign system shaping global opinions in real time through data, media, and networks.
The visual should feature a giant holographic AI neural network or digital brain above a glowing global map, with streams of data connecting cities and people. Social media feeds, political visuals, and AI-generated content should blend together into one unified digital ecosystem. A central AI core or command system should feel like it is controlling the flow of information across the world.
The atmosphere should be cinematic and dramatic with cyberpunk-inspired lighting, using neon blue, red, and glowing digital tones. Add volumetric lighting, deep shadows, and high contrast to create a powerful and slightly dystopian mood.

The composition should feel like a premium advertising poster with strong visual hierarchy, leaving clean space for headline text. The style should be ultra-realistic, highly detailed, 8K quality, with Hollywood-level sci-fi and political thriller aesthetics.
The final image should feel powerful, thought-provoking, and represent the future of AI-driven campaigning and digital influence.
Aspect ratio 16:9, magazine-quality, viral tech poster style.
