Netflix Starts Using AI in Film Production

Netflix has officially started using AI to help create scenes in its original content, even as Hollywood studios continue to debate its use. This marks a big step in how entertainment is being made.

  • In the Argentine series "El Atonata," Netflix used AI to create a building collapse scene.

  • According to co-CEO Ted Sarandos, this AI-made scene was 10 times faster and cheaper than traditional methods.

  • Netflix also uses AI for personalized content, search, and advertising, with plans to launch interactive ads later this year.

This shows how AI is changing the film industry. Netflix is proving that AI can be more than just a cost-cutting tool, it can help improve quality and speed. As AI tools become more common, we might see more shows and movies made faster, cheaper, and with new creative possibilities.

Animate Anyone with Just a Video

Runway Unveils New AI Motion Capture Tool "Act-Two"

Runway has introduced a new AI-powered motion capture model called Act-Two, which allows creators to animate any character, from realistic humans to fantasy creatures, using just a simple video of a real person. No special suits or sensors needed.

  • Only two inputs required: a video of someone talking/moving, and a still image or video of the character to animate.

  • Tracks full body motion, facial expressions, hand movements, and even lip-syncs the voice.

  • Can transfer performance to realistic or cartoon-style characters, while keeping the original movement quality.

Traditional motion capture is expensive and complex. Act-Two makes high-quality animation accessible to everyone, from small studios and indie filmmakers to everyday content creators. It lowers costs, saves time, and opens the door to more creative freedom in video production.

OpenAI Agent: Smart But Slow?

OpenAI recently introduced its newest smart assistant called ChatGPT Agent.

What is ChatGPT Agent?

OpenAI has merged two of its previous smart tools, Operator (for browsing the web) and Deep Research (for multi-step investigations), into one new integrated tool inside ChatGPT. This agent uses a “virtual computer” to do things like check your calendar, plan trips, shop online, or write detailed reports for you.

The Agent's Strange Limitations

Despite its exciting features, one major limitation raises questions about how useful this tool really is. According to OpenAI, the agent must get user approval before taking any major action. That means you can't just give it a task and walk away. For important steps like booking tickets or making purchases, your confirmation are required.

Wired's analysis points out an important contradiction:

  • From a safety point of view: This is a smart move. Since AI can make mistakes or be tricked by hackers (through methods like prompt injection), having human oversight helps prevent security or financial disasters.

  • From a usability point of view: Requiring constant user involvement goes against the idea of automation. The agent is stuck in a strange spot, it’s too powerful to leave completely unsupervised, but not smart enough to handle things on its own.

Performance in Early Tests

In early trials, the agent didn’t perform very well. For example, one test showed that it took almost an hour just to order a few cupcakes.

In OpenAI’s demo video, the agent was asked to plan a trip to visit every Major League Baseball stadium in the U.S. It created a map that included a stop in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico, clearly a big error. These kinds of mistakes, even shown in official demos, suggest the technology still has a long way to go before it’s truly reliable.

When its available?

At first, ChatGPT Agent will only be available to Pro users, with a limit of 400 prompts per month.

Plus and Team users will get access later, but with a much lower limit, only 1/10 of what Pro users get. There’s no timeline yet for when free users will be able to try it.
