The new interview: McKinsey & Company has added an "AI interview" to its final-round hiring process. Graduate candidates must now use McKinsey's internal AI tool, Lilli, to solve real client scenarios — and be evaluated on their judgment, not just their answers.
What they test: Not technical AI knowledge. Not prompt engineering. They test whether you can use AI as a "productive thinking partner" — prompt it clearly, challenge its output, and make a sharper decision because of it.
The 25,000 agents: McKinsey CEO Bob Sternfels revealed the firm now runs 40,000 humans alongside 25,000 AI agents — and his stated goal is 1:1 parity by end of 2026. Over one-third of McKinsey's workforce is already AI.
