Sam Altman admits ChatGPT’s risks keep him awake at night.
In a talk with Tucker Carlson, the OpenAI chief said the weight of responsibility from millions using ChatGPT daily is heavy. He pointed to struggles around suicide cases, ethical rules, and AI use in the military.
Altman said the toughest challenge has been ChatGPT’s role in conversations about suicide, after a lawsuit tied the chatbot to a teen’s death.
He explained OpenAI is shaping rules with help from ethics experts worldwide.
He stressed that privacy is vital, comparing it to doctor-patient confidentiality, though courts can still demand access.
This shows the urgent need for safe and responsible AI, as mistakes can touch real human lives and even matters of life and death.
