Where is DeepSeek R2?
China’s DeepSeek delays its new AI model R2
Chinese AI company DeepSeek has delayed the launch of its new model, DeepSeek R2, as the CEO says it still doesn’t perform well enough.
R2 was supposed to launch in May, but it's now on hold until further improvements are made.
A major issue is the shortage of Nvidia AI chips in China, caused by U.S. export limits.
Cloud companies using DeepSeek's models are under pressure, as demand rises and chips are limited.
This delay highlights how global chip supply problems and tech export rules are directly affecting AI progress in China. It also shows how hard it is to build strong AI models without the right hardware.
